Being a Portland 5k Ambassador team member may be for you. You may encourage a runner or walker who needs encouragement.  Either way, you may be changed yourself!  The Portland 5k Ambassador Team exists to help people - whatever their needs, we are there for them.

You will help with the Portland 5k event from start to finish.

  • help with Packet Pick Up - Thursday or Friday

  • wear Portland 5k apparel to meetings and events

  • help with mic duties on race day

  • usher participants, answer questions

  • be a positive Portland 5k influence in the community

2018 Portland 5k Ambassadors

Julie Mullins is a 40-year-old runner from Dallas, Oregon.  She is married to Jerry, has three beautiful kids, and works at West Valley Hospital. Julie ran in high school but as an adult, started running in 2008. She ran with the only other runner she knew at the time, who introduced her to “the marathon.”  That is all it took.  Since then, Julie has completed 12 full marathons, numerous 5k, 10ks, and 15ks.  One Ultra and September 9th will complete her 25th half marathon at Uberthons Fall half. Julie’s goal is to get her BQ in 2018!  In the meantime she organizes a local running group “ZaoFit” (on fb). She loves running with others - it is what keeps her motivated to stay consistent, and to keep dreaming big.

Jerry Mullins - Husband, Father, Coach, Personal Trainer, Health Coach, Runner, and Uberthons Ambassador.

Jerry has been running Since 2010 when he started running to reclaim his health. Back in 2010, Jerry was the heaviest and least active he had ever been, and he decided it was time to do what it took to get back in shape. He gave up sugary drinks and started exercising regularly, that year he ran 397 miles and hated most of those miles. In 2011 he ran another 390 miles and still had no desire to run outside of working on his health. But the changes were paying off; he got back to his high-school weight and was starting to feel better. In 2012 he went to cheer his wife at one of her marathons and ran the last 10 miles with her because she was struggling. It was then that he fell in love with the beauty of running. In 2013, he ran his first marathon (thought he was going to die), and, promised he would never do that again. But since then, he has run five more, and, now, has a goal of qualifying for Boston in the next two years. This year, his is on pace to log 2000 miles.  Through his journey, he felt a need to help others, so, he went back to school and has since become a personal trainer/health coach, resigned his position of 20 years, and started his own business (ZaoFit) helping others reclaim their health. 

Eileen Kuffner - Eileen started running again in 2011 after taking almost a 15-year break from running.  She ran her first race with Uberthons in 2011, and, since then, she has run over 75 races with them!  When she is not running Uberthons' races, you can usually find Eileen managing the results tent helping the athletes get their instant race results and handing out age-group awards.  She also had the privilege of being the co-captain of Team Uberthons' Van 2 at Hood to Coast 2016.  Being an Ambassador helps Eileen bring many of her passions together - running, volunteering, and getting to know all of the other amazing Uberthons runners!  She also enjoys the fun and friendly competition with the other Ambassadors at the races - chasing the super speedy Julie Mullins and Ruth Schlater while being closely chased by Michelle Curtis and Margo Glass!   

Margo Glass - Überthoner and Race Director, Margo Glass, has been running only a few years, but has become deeply immersed in the running community in that relatively short time. Having completed 20 as both a participant and a pacer, her favorite distance has become the half marathon . Aside from the half marathons, her favorite races to pace are the 5ks as a personal pacer to her two young boys who are experienced Überthoners as well. After taking a hiatus from running this past year, Margo is kickstarting her running again with an HIIT workout at Burn Bootcamp. She is anticipating the additional full-body training will have her back in shape to once again attempt to chase down her fellow ambassador, Eileen Kuffner, in 2018. The rest of the time she is either out running or working behind the scenes at the Überthons events. Margo is training for the Oregon Marathon Half Series and the Fast On Flat Marathon Relay, but in reality, she just needs to stay faster than those boys - they keep getting faster!
